PYRAMID LAKE

Tufa "Pyramid"  of Pyramid Lake  Considered one of the largest desert lakes in the world, Pyramid Lake gets its name from the unique rock structure on the eastern shore. The lake is 188 square miles in area and is fed by the Truckee River. Although the lake is only 10% the size of the Great Salt Lake, Pyramid lake has 25% more volume. With an average size of 3 1/2 pounds, Lahontan Cutthroat Trout is an angler's delight in this lake . Seventy miles of sandy beaches provides for summer swimming, boating and water skiing. The lake has a modern marina, visitor center, gas pumps and store which is operated by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. The Tribe also manages the entire Lake and surrounding Reservation.
